Isaiah 43:1-2

But now, this is what the Lord says- he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Attainment:

God's presence is: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you". How greatly we hope that we can experience the presence of God, but firstly we need to have the courage and determination to "pass through the waters", God promised us that the water will not sweep over us when we're crossing the rivers, we can enjoy the promises from God when we are acting out.

We can't change the procedure of God, worrying about the hardship of the future, hoping that God will first flatten the road ahead; but God will act according to His plan and open up the path step by step.

We nailed Jesus there

He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities. (Isaiah 53:5)

When you study [Rembrandt's] painting of the crucifixion. . ., your attention is first drawn to the cross and to Jesus. Then, as you look at the crowd around the cross, your eyes drift to the edge of the picture and catch sight of another figure--almost hidden in the shadows. This, we are told, was a self-portrait of Rembrandt, for he recognized that by his sins he helped nail Jesus there!

Someone has aptly said, "It is a simple thing to say that Christ died for the sin of the world. It is quite another thing to say that Christ died for my sin!"

(Evans)

Acts 27:25-26

So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me. Nevertheless, we must run aground on some island."

Attainment: Faith is not based on feelings, seeing, or reasons, but holding on to God through His words. - Evans
This verse is describing the hardship of what Paul was experiencing, he was sailing while he came across a calamity, the hope of surviving for him and the people on the ship is almost none, but God promised that he and the crowd on the ship will survie. A great spiritual man once said: "The begining of anxiousness is the restriction of faith, the begining of faith is the restriction of anxiousness." Its hard to build our faith when we're living in a comfort zone. Paul held on to God's promises even when he has little chance of surviving! "for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me." When we're facing calamity, the sound of victory comes from God's promises, the Bible is filled with promises from God, it is wise to hold on to God's promises everyday!

My devotions

Everything is permissible"--but not everything is beneficial.

"Everything is permissible"--but not everything is constructive.

Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

无论是犹太人,是希腊人,是上帝的教会,你们总不可使他们跌倒;

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God--

even as I try to please everybody in every way.

For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.

These verses is like an arrow that pierce through me. When I was reading this verses, it 'struck' me deeply because it kind of reminds me of how egotistical I am. How I was always doing things that only benefits myself. And how unconstructive I am, how I 'accidently' hurt others when I was talking nonsense. Dear brothers and sisters, please forgive me for I am a heedless person, I'm sorry for all the things that I've said if it was hurtful. But once again these verses reminds me that do all things for the glory for God. So brothers and sisters, let us not seek our own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved, or at least let us not cause anyone to stumble with our mindless words or careless actions. And once again I pray that I, myself, will always hold on to these verses so that I would not hurt anyone with my heedless acts, and that I will always do things for the glory of God, remind me if I'd ever deviate, because I knew I always do for I'm weak, but thanks be to God that He is willing to guide me through all this... This is just a little sharing from me...I pray that whoever who read this will at least learn something from the verses.
